Sand coprosma (tātaraheke, Coprosma acerosa) is a coastal plant found on the landward side of sand dunes. Sand coprosam is a low, spreading shrub with yellow-brownish leaves, red bark and white-pale blue fruit. Flowers are small with male and female flowers on separate plants. It is rapidly becoming scarce in large parts of its range through dune reclamation, competition from marram grass (Ammophila arenaria) and browsing by lagomorphs.
