Welcome to the East Coast Protection Group: caring for Marlborough’s native wildlife and special places from the Waima River to Marfells Beach. Our work is guided by three pillars: biodiversity, community, and education. We restore and protect the natural environment, bring people together to care for special places, and share knowledge that inspires action for the future.

Biodiversity

Protect and restore the coastal environment, building resilience and biodiversity so that endangered wildlife and fragile ecosystems can thrive once more.

Community

Inspire collective action by bringing together landowners, iwi, schools, volunteers, and coastal users, building a shared sense of responsibility and pride in protecting this special environment.

Education

Deepen awareness and understanding of the unique biodiversity and cultural heritage of this significant limestone coastal landscape.

The East Coast Protection Group (ECPG) is a community-led, not-for-profit organisation restoring and protecting 42 km of Marlborough’s Limestone Coast, from Marfells Beach to the Waima River. Working alongside the community, we carry out predator control, biodiversity monitoring, weed removal and dune restoration to safeguard native species. Through education, advocacy and collaboration, we’re building lasting environmental resilience and protection, inspiring community stewardship.
