Horokaka or native ice plant (Disphyma australe subsp. australe) is a low-lying succulent shrub native to New Zealand. It spreads along the ground with fleshy triangular leaves and bears daisy-like flowers in shades of white to deep pink, usually found on coastal rocks, gravel beaches, and estuaries.

Thriving in harsh, salty, sun-soaked coastal habitats where few plants manage, this ice plant plays a stabilising role in these exposed environments. Its ability to store water and tolerate salt spray lets it anchor the sand or rock, helping protect shoreline ecosystems.
